Discover What Inspires You to Succeed
Chad Crittenden—a national college speaker, stay-at-home dad and an avid sports competitor—challenges students to seize the moments in life that will give them the most inspiration.
Chad was diagnosed with a rare form of Sarcoma cancer several years ago that caused the removal of his foot below the knee. His life changed forever, but he also found a new sense of philosophy and motivation in life.
As an amputee, Chad could have easily lost the inspiration to set and achieve goals in his life.
“Inspiration and motivation are not always easy to come by. I used to have to motivate myself twice as hard to get up and do workouts when I was perfectly able-bodied and had two feet,” states Chad.
Chad hasn’t let his new life as an amputee stop him from taking on challenges. For him, the ability to compete in sports has given him the opportunity to live a more fulfilled life and to motivate others. He has competed in a dozen triathlons, one marathon, several mountain bike and snowboarding competitions, competitive soccer events and even competed on the reality television series, Survivor. Currently, he is training for the Wildflower, an off-road mountain bike triathlon held in Monterey County, California.
“The training takes a lot of motivation and time, and is brutal and rewarding at the same time! “
Chad admits that after losing his foot, he was even more motivated and driven to compete in athletic competitions. While recovering, he sought inspiration and guidance from other challenged athletes and now wants to pass that same inspiration on to others.
“When I’m training and racing, I come across people who tell me that they are inspired by what they see. This support in turn inspires me to train even harder and to do even better, in order to continue to impress upon others that those with physical challenges are able to accomplish great things just like anyone else, “ states Chad.
Chad reminds students that, “no matter what we’re doing in life, it is often a matter of digging deep to find that inner inspiration and power to achieve!”
