THE BIG STORY

Ethan Zohn Makes Cover of Runner’s World!

Ethan Zohn Makes Cover of Runner’s World!

A true survivor in many ways, Ethan continues to surprise CAMPUSPEAK with his achievements and dedication.

And we aren’t the only ones impressed. Runner’s World magazine will feature Ethan on the July cover, along with a personal interview.

Ethan is the winner of the hit reality show Survivor: Africa. He used his winnings and notoriety from Survivor to form the non-profit Grassroot Soccer to help spread HIV and AIDS prevention education to young people in Africa.

After several successful years with Grassroot Soccer, Ethan was hit with yet another surprise, this time one not in his favor. In 2009, he was diagnosed with a rare form of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. While going through several treatments of chemotherapy, Ethan used running as a tool to get him through it all. Although Ethan was dealing with cancer, his spirits and character never faltered.

“When I had cancer and was going through chemo, running was the one thing that gave me confidence,” states Ethan.

Ethan has been running his entire life, with his first race being a two-mile run at nine years old. From an early age, Ethan has used running as a way to build character.

“I had a stem-cell transplant and was in isolation for 21 days in December 2009. I would get out with my IV bags and walk laps around the hospital—I knew that 30 laps was a mile. The nurses thought I was crazy. Ten months after my last treatment, I ran the New York City Marathon.”

Three years after battling cancer, Ethan is back in full-swing. He is currently in Africa, working with Grassroot Soccer and continues to run thirty miles a week.

“This year I want to break four hours [for a marathon]. But all the work isn’t just to cross the finish line. I’ll be running to raise money for my charity, Grassroot Soccer, that will help save people’s lives.”

Ethan’s keynote is perfect for first year experience, character building, leadership and values clarification programming. Bring him to your campus this year to give your students The Ultimate Survival Tool.
