THE BIG STORY

Make Yourself the Highest Priority by Dr. Lori Hart

Make Yourself the Highest Priority by Dr. Lori Hart

by DR. LORI HART

“Today’s college woman is an amazing creature,” said Dr. Lori Hart. “She truly believes, and rightfully so, that she can do and be anything.”

Yet so many women are still fixated on having a boyfriend and pleasing the male gender, Lori observed. Amid all the amazing things they are doing and dreaming of, too many college women fight desperately to find self-worth in relationships that take more than they give. As an award-winning speaker and educator, Lori is constantly frustrated by the paradox.

“Young women need to be reminded to keep their focus on who they are and who they want to become. Keep your focus on loving yourself unconditionally and fulfilling your dreams.  Don’t be in a relationship unless someone adds value to your life. Until that right person comes along, stop worrying.”

Lori has been presenting her program, Everything You Always Wanted to Know About the Opposite Sex for more than a decade. While many men and women come to Lori’s keynotes to unlock the mysteries of relationships and gender communication, many take away a message about knowing yourself and making a commitment to following your own values.

“I believe that young people—if they want to be successful in all areas of their lives—really need to figure out what they value and live their lives accordingly. No excuses. If you want to love yourself unconditionally, you have to stick to your values all the time.”

As one of the busiest speakers on the college circuit, Lori has a chance to role model for thousands of young college women. When she speaks to them and hears their struggles, it’s often like looking at a mirror or traveling back in time. “So many of the anxieties young women face today have changed so little in the last couple of decades. We still want it all, we still want to feel good about ourselves, and we still deal with the stress that comes with all of that.”

Basically, Lori tries to tell men and women the empowering messages that she wishes she had heard back then. “The relationship with yourself is the number one relationship you need to focus on.”
