How to Create Your Own Luck: Excelling On Campus Before You Have Experience & Connections

More than ever, it’s a competitive landscape out there for young people. There’s a tough economy. High unemployment rate. Student loan debt. And, college graduates are “boomeranging” back home in droves. To make matters worse, there seems to be more competition than ever! In this social media age, everyone seems to be awesome with phenomenal credentials. If you don’t stand out, you’re left behind. So how do you stand out in the crowd? You have to get busy creating your own luck. Antonio Neves knows this all too well. Raised in a small midwest town, he grew up in a blue-collar family, spent time living in a shelter as a kid and he became the first in his family to get a college degree. He moved to New York City with $600 in his pocket, knowing one person in the city. Even without any connections to speak of and no real world experience, he took three pivotal steps to create his own luck, and he created a high-profile career in the competitive television industry with top networks including NBC, BET, Nickelodeon, PBS and more. He transformed potential into exceptional performance. So can you. Antonio is an exceptionally lively speaker who energizes audiences of all sizes and types. His message is positive and encouraging, making him a perfect choice for a stand-alone event, leadership conference, or emerging leaders program. In this keynote, Antonio breaks down his three steps to creating his own luck, helping students understand how they can start setting themselves up for a better shot at success. These steps include “getting uncomfortable;” developing a “Walk-On Mentality;” and asking the important question “Who makes you better?” As the famous quote goes, “Luck is where opportunity meets preparation.” This motivational program empowers student leaders to take steps now so that they will be prepared to stand out during and after college.

Learning Outcomes

As a result of attending the program, students will learn:

Student-Athlete 101: Becoming A Leader On & Off The Field

Student-athletes face one of the most challenging experiences a college student can encounter. Not only do they have to balance a full load of classes and their social life on campus, they simultaneously must learn how to thrive in the high-pressure environment of NCAA athletics. While many student-athletes have goals of turning professional, the truth is that the vast majority of them won’t play their sport beyond their university experience. It’s absolutely necessary that student-athletes learn to harness their years on campus for immediate and long-term success. So how do student-athletes learn how to thrive on and off the field? By learning the basics of Student-Athlete 101. Keynote speaker, and author of the best-selling book Student Athlete 101, Antonio Neves knows what it takes to excel as a student-athlete. A former walk-on at a top NCAA Division I program, he took key steps to succeed in the classroom and on the field. From day one on campus, he committed himself to getting the most out of his four-year student-athlete experience. And he did. He went on to earn a scholarship and become an all-conference and all-academic performer. This foundation helped him create a high-profile career for himself in the completive television industry with top networks including NBC, PBS, BET, Nickelodeon, and more. Antonio is a direct, engaging, and dynamic speaker that motivates student-athletes regardless of their sport or year in college. His message is one of positivity and focuses on teaching student-athletes how to take full accountability and responsibility for their actions and how to take the necessary steps to get the results they desire. In this keynote, Antonio breaks down the key steps student-athletes must take to develop into top leaders on and off campus, and in their careers. He teaches them how to harness their natural attributes that include time management, teamwork, focus, and strong work ethic.
