Jung Park, a business owner and professional speaker, helps individuals discover their personal brand to help them succeed at their goals.

In a world that tells them to be richer, better looking and more popular, it’s no surprise that some college students feel anxious from the moment they step on campus. Expecting to find clarity from their four or five years spent at college, they feel even more anxiety as graduation approaches. They feel as though they should know where they’re headed, but many have no clear sense of who they really are or what direction to take in life.

This is where Jung comes in. He helps students identify how to connect their passions and their interests with a plan and a personal identity that promotes their goals. He helps them turn vague ideas into measurable steps and positive momentum. He gets them growing, moving and acting in ways that move them toward their life goals. More than simply a motivational speaker on success, Jung gives students a set of tools to merge their possibilities with their self-identities.

Jung is an excellent choice for a wide variety of student groups: from student-athletes, to business students, international students, student organization leaders, fraternity men and women, non-traditional students and more. Any student group that is concerned with success, personal image and leading a goal-driven life will feel incredibly empowered after only a few minutes with this powerful speaker.

This was a perfect way to begin the year. The topic of "Personal Brand" and "North Star" covered by Jung was informative, innovative, entertaining and meaningful. This speaker was a winner!

Finding Your North Star: Using Identity and Passion to Find Success

College students begin defining their personal identity as soon as they step onto campus. Their peers will immediately impose definitions on them, based on a wide variety of assumptions. No matter their reality, students will be quickly measured by their ethnicity, gender and sexuality, perceptions of wealth and status, manner of dress, their friends, political views and more. How do students shape their image and role on campus (and in life beyond college) based on their values? While many student might be savvy about outer appearance—given many pop culture influences—they might struggle with their personal self-worth as they struggle to merge the person on the inside with the person they portray outwardly.

Jung asks students to imagine how their friends might summarize their life in one word. Would others use words to describe you that would match the way you see yourself? Jung says that most students struggle to guess the words others would use for them. A student might wish to be described as “successful” or “generous” by their friends at the end of the day, but might also realize that they are not yet living out that identity.

Jung believes, like companies, people can have their own “brand,” but it’s more than image visibility. A brand is also about shared values, creating connections and offering the world something useful. And like companies, students should capitalize on the one or two things that they are really good at, something that holds great interest or brings them joy. Determining both an identity and a passion is what Jung calls “finding your North Star”—a strong sense of purpose that will help guide the big decisions that students make: in academics, organizations, career choices, friendships and beyond. After hearing these strategies—along with Jung’s personal stories about how he meets challenges on a daily basis about his identity—students will leave excited and energized to chart the best college experience for themselves.

Jung’s presentation is a perfect keynote for student audiences seeking personal success and authenticity. That could mean first year experience audiences, business students, international students, emerging leaders, organization presidents and more. He is especially popular with those campuses with large international or non-traditional student populations.

Jung's Bio

In 1984, at age 13, Jung and his family emigrated to Brooklyn from South Korea. In Korea, his parents were white collar professionals and Jung had just completed his first semester of junior high school. His new American life changed things drastically. His father went to work in a fish market, and Jung had to learn English in a bustling American elementary school. His early experiences in America taught Jung that setbacks and challenges are part of life. He soon discovered a passion for design by attending the “Famed” Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music, Art and Performing Arts, and he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree specializing in Communication Design from Parsons School of Design in New York City.

Jung honed his business sense as a user experience director for an Internet solutions agency. He then completed his MBA at the University of Colorado Denver, writing a business plan for a unique men’s personal branding center as part of his graduate studies. The business plan was awarded with the 1st place honor at the 3rd Annual Business Plan Competition hosted by Bard Center for Entrepreneurship at University of Colorado Denver. From that business plan, his business, MetroBoom, was born in 2005. MetroBoom is a unique business model in Denver providing personal brand consultation, grooming and hair care services and custom clothing for professional men. When he’s not traveling and speaking, he’s helping a successful clientele develop their personal brands.

Jung currently lives in Denver, Colorado with his wife and children.
